teat spraying is still the most important single thing you can do to reduce the spread of mastitis. The reason for this is that every time you apply cups to a cow you are passing bacteria to the teats of the next cow to be milked. These bacteria can then enter the teat canal and cause mastitis.

You see your cows every day, so it can be difficult to spot teat condition changes unless you make it a task to take a really close look. Using a teat scoring chart system is a good way to assess current teat condition and compare with previous audits.

Pick a day, maybe a Tuesday once a month and make it “Teat Tuesday”, Start by assessing a 50 cow sample for teat health.
